How JourneyPure Athens Can Help You

We aim to help patients and their families get the drug and alcohol addiction treatment they need and deserve. We do so by providing evidence-based treatments along with dual diagnosis to address co-occurring mental health issues and root out the underlying triggers causing the patient to abuse substances. Our care goes beyond addiction cessation to offer practical skills required to re-enter everyday life successfully, imparting the values of good nutrition, exercise, social connectivity, and spiritual grounding to set the stage for lifelong recovery.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment in Athens, TN

For some, treatment actually begins at the outpatient level, so that clients can continue with their daily commitments of work and family while developing their recovery skills through individual and group therapy. This level of treatment is designed for those who believe their substance abuse is not life-threatening. Still, IOPs offer a structured, individualized, and challenging treatment program. People will work past their feelings and assumptions while in an IOP. JourneyPure Athens’ IOP program provides dual diagnosis treatment with a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach, integrating mind, body, and spirit.

Individual Therapy

Addiction has long been viewed as a choice, however science has proven it to be a disease that has several different environmental, biological, and genetic factors to its development. Those who abuse addictive substances do not usually do it for absolutely no reason. Instead, abusing drugs and/or alcohol is a way to either help self-medicate problems caused by environmental and biological factors or because experimentation led to the development of an addiction due to genetic predisposition. No matter how one’s addiction developed, there are always underlying causes, issues, and challenges that are tied to the reasons why someone abuses addictive substances.

Relapse Prevention

Despite evidence piling up that addiction is a disease, several people still believe that it is a choice. A large majority of these people are people who have been touched by addiction, such as those who had addicted parents while growing up. It is easy to think that addiction is a choice when watching someone continue to do something that they know brings such consequence, as it feels incredibly personal and hurtful. However, addiction is far from a choice, rather it is a disease that is impacting millions of Americans today.

Family Interventions

Families work as units, meaning that the actions and decisions that each member of the family makes will impact everyone within that unit. In some cases, this is a good thing. However, for those who have a family member who is struggling with the disease of addiction, the negative impacts can be anything but good. When a family member such as a parent, sibling, or child is addicted to one or more dangerous substances, not only will he or she begin suffering from a wide range of distressing symptoms, but so will his or her family.

Outpatient Treatment

We also provide an outpatient program. This program requires a minimum of two hours of individual therapy and regular attendance of support groups each week. While in this stage of addiction recovery, a person may be required to seek an outside therapy professional to assist with his or her recovery process. This type of treatment is suited for those with less intense, short-term addictions who would rather begin work on their recovery now, before hitting a life-threatening “rock bottom.”

The JourneyPure Athens staff provides trauma-informed care in groups that meet three times a week: an experiential group exploring an underlying emotional issue or issues; a recovery-focused group providing education regarding their addiction issues, and an emotions processing group that focuses on coping skills in dealing with mental health issues like depression, anxiety, grief, and trauma.

Andrelia G

Professional Detox Chef | JourneyPure

Clean date: December 7, 2004

"I enjoy helping others to get clean/sober because someone helped me. It's a 'we' thing. It's much easier knowing that there is someone who has 'been there, done that' and is willing to help, than feeling as though you are alone. I enjoy helping others in any way I can, especially in the recovery process. It's a great way to live and actions speak louder than words."

Clean date: September 25, 2015

"I love working in this field because I love addicts. I love celebrating triumphs and milestones with them and holding space for them through the struggles and slip-ups. I am grateful to give back what was freely given to me when I got clean, and being of service to my Higher Power who gave me this beautiful life."

John I

Director of Alumni | JourneyPure

Clean date: August 3rd, 2014

"My name is John, and I am a person in long-term recovery from substance use. What that means to me is that I have abstained from drugs and alcohol since August 3rd, 2014, and for that, I am truly grateful. I also serve as the Director of Alumni with JourneyPure." "The reason I love working in recovery is because I believe that recovery is possible, in whichever pathway it means for each person. I am a living testament to the possibility of regaining and sustaining a life as a person in recovery. If it’s possible for me, it is possible for anyone."

Years Clean: 10

"I’m passionate about getting people sober for many reasons. First, many years ago an organization dropped what they were doing to help me go to treatment and get my life back on the right track. To this day, I feel a strong need to repay that gift in kind. What excites me the most, though, is the opportunity and platform for personal growth that sobriety provides. I love the gift that sobriety has given me and want to see everyone struggling with addiction receive the same gift. This is a chronic condition, it doesn’t go away, but you can learn how to use the tools that will keep it in remission."

Lauren A

Alumni Coordinator, Recovery Coach | JourneyPure

Clean date: April 20, 2016

"Helping other alcoholics and drug addicts through the recovery process has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. It is truly a blessing to see the light come on in their eyes as they start to put their lives back together."

Molly M

Lead Marketing Strategist | JourneyPure

Clean Since: September 7th, 2015

"Before I got sober, I had lost all hope in life. I couldn’t see a future for myself in any capacity apart from perpetual addiction. Sobriety has been the greatest gift I could ever ask for. There is no greater feeling to me than helping others see a new, better way of life. Watching the lights turn on behind someone's eyes when they get sober and realize how good life can be is the most rewarding experience. It is an honor to be able to help fellow addicts and alcoholics reach their goals and learn to laugh again."

Tim S

Director of Marketing | JourneyPure

Clean date: March 4, 2010

"I've been sober since March 4 2010. Without my sobriety I would have nothing. I feel that it's a privilege to work with other people who are starting their journey in recovery. Before I got sober, I didn't think I would ever have fun again. Now I get a chance to show other people how enjoyable life can really be. It means the world to me. It's the most important thing I can do with my life."
